Active Release Therapy (ART)

Active Release Therapy (ART) is a patented soft-tissue system/movement based massage technique developed by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. It utilizes over five hundred specific protocols to allow providers to very uniquely evaluate and treat various musculoskeletal conditions. Whether a painful condition is caused by a trauma or overuse, it is often the dense build-up of scar tissue that binds muscles and entraps nerves. ART sessions combine a clinician using his or her hands to evaluate the feel of the tissue and then apply precisely directed tension with patient movement.

Staff member Mimi Escobar is currently one of the only local physical therapists that is certified in ART. She is full body certified including upper extremity, lower extremity and spine and has been utilizing these techniques on a variety of conditions including various marathoners and triathletes to keep them training and competing at a high level.
